The leadership team at Texans Credit Union (Texans) had a clear choice in front of them: keep absorbing the daily cost of a platform that could not keep pace with their institution’s growth goals, or complete a digital banking conversion and build the digital future its members expected.
For this $2.6B+ credit union serving more than 150,000 members, the long-term opportunity outweighed the work required to complete a digital banking conversion—from executive decision-making and change management to employee readiness and implementation planning. Texans wanted a partner that could help it continuously improve member experiences, connect account opening to digital banking, and give its team the flexibility to build what came next.
Their previous platform had become a constraint. Roadmap commitments were difficult to trust, differentiated experiences often required provider-led requests and recurring costs, and the member journey lacked continuity between systems. The result was manual work for employees, more calls for members, and less ability for Texans to customize their platform and move at the speed of modern fintech.
"As an organization, we had to decide whether we wanted to continue experiencing the same pain points every day on our previous platform or consolidate it into one moment of change. We knew the conversion would be a tremendous effort, but we also knew that staying with the status quo could mean waiting another 10 or 15 years to deliver the experiences our members needed. We chose to get through the disruption and start building toward the future. That long-term perspective was the deciding factor for us."
— Mike McWethy, Executive Vice President, Texans Credit Union
In 2022, Texans selected Alkami’s Digital Banking Platform and has since expanded its relationship to take full advantage of Alkami’s partner ecosystem, software development kit (SDK), and MANTL Onboarding & Account Opening.
Discover how Texans Credit Union navigated their decision making and implementation process, as well as the results they’ve achieved on the Alkami Platform.
Why did Texans Credit Union decide to replace its previous digital banking platform?
Texans’ previous platform had become a constraint on the credit union’s growth. Roadmap commitments were difficult to trust, differentiated experiences often required provider-led requests and recurring costs, and members experienced an inconsistent journey across systems. Texans chose to complete the conversion rather than continue absorbing the daily cost of staying with the status quo.
How did Texans approach the digital banking conversion?
Texans treated the conversion as a long-term investment in its digital future. The process required executive decision-making, change management, employee readiness, and detailed implementation planning. The credit union selected Alkami in 2022 and focused on building a more flexible platform that could continuously improve member experiences and support future innovation.
What results did Texans achieve after implementing Alkami?
Following implementation, Texans increased active digital banking users by 42%, growing from 68,833 at conversion to 97,446 in May 2026. Its Net Promoter Score increased from 73.6 to 89.4, and the credit union achieved a 4.8 App Store rating. Active digital banking users also grew by approximately 10% annually.
How did MANTL improve Texans’ account-opening experience?
After MANTL went live in March 2026, Texans saw online booked accounts double in the first month. In the first six weeks, members opened 1,222 accounts and deposited nearly $11.5 million. Account opening averaged approximately 5.7 minutes across channels, including an average of 6.33 minutes in branches—up to five times faster than the previous process.
